Got all set up to conduct my first phone interview today at work…..when the dual headset decided to take a nap and not participate! So fingers crossed it wants to play nice tomorrow and i can actually talk to someone about their application!
We’re moving the office around tomorrow too, so we’ll all have new desks and i’ll be able to set up ‘office home’ properly! I’m totally going to raid paperchase sometime next week and pad it out with some cute notebooks, stationary and a pretty calender! Might have to dig out my halloween decorations and bring those in too! They’ve already put up some spider webs and dangly bats….an office that celebrates halloween is my kind of place!! :)
I did some snazzy photography with andrew this morning for his photography course. He was stealing my arm with attached Tiffany charm bracelet for some assignment. To be honest, i had a free soya gingerbread latte so i didn’t really ask many questions! Might steal some of the piccies to show you when he’s played around with them!
Replies to: My dashboard's very quite this evening, how's everyone's week going?
Sounds like a lot of you are having a great week, that’s brilliant! :) kelleibelle, i am very jealous of your good weather, all we have is fog and rain right now! and justkal, i’ve never been to singapore, i’d imagine any week there would be lots of fun!
My weeks very busy, working an actual job is tiring! Especially because i’m just so excited that i can’t sleep at night either! I’m hoping my body will settle into my new routine sometime soon!
Who was your favourite band growing up?
For me, it's the Spice Girls, hands down! xXx
Ha! Yeah i agree, i had Spice World the movie and a bedroom wall covered in teen magazine posters! I was also hugely into a boy band called O-Town too! My dad took me to go and see them….it was my first ‘gig’! LOL!
It must have been the most embarrassing night of his life and i love him for it! ♥
My Old Gregg boots have arrived! First part of my costume = done…now just got to get a jacket, shirt, tie, leggings, tutu, wig and facepaint! :|
The bf is going as The Spirit of Jazz and is making a hat that looks as if it’s on fire using a fan, some red LEDs and crepe paper! I think i need to step up my game this time round! I just hope no-one looks at my ebay watch list, they’ll think i’m a complete weirdo with all the old gregg costume bits i’m watching!!
Anyone got ideas on how i can make my wig?
…i’m thinking possibly attaching bits of seaweed shaped stripes of green garbage bags/crepe paper to a hairnet? Could always paint a bit of clear nail varnish to bits of it to make it look wet! lol!
I made it through my first day at work hoorah!!! There was SO much to take in i’m completely pooped! Learning all about the pub industry and how complicated running a pub can be for our potential clients etc. But i did get to wear a fancy headset thingy and had a sneak peek at my desk! It shall have to be decorated with cute heart shaped push pins and adorable notebooks i feel!
I have lots of booklets to read through and a little dvd to watch as well which i’ll crack on with later, i really don’t think it will be long before i have to conduct my first interview. I get the feeling they want to chuck me in the deep end as soon as possible! Scary stuff, but very exciting at the same time! And the ladies in my team are all so lovely too.
I’m so excited, but also very nervous, it’s a really big thing! It was my first ‘real-life’ job interview and it’s all kind of worked out perfectly to be honest. They’ve started me on a part-time contract so as i’ll be working afternoons monday-friday i don’t have to leave my weekend job just yet which is ace! Then, i guess if i’m settling in well and enjoying the work i’ll be boosted to a full-time contract, which is when i’ll have to leave my lovely weekend people. I’ll really miss them, i’ve been in that job for 6 years (saddo!).
This job is the start of actual life! Me and the boyfriend are rapidly getting closer to being in a great position for getting a house together (and i’ll get my puppy!), as well as having more money to do the things i really want to do, and saving a lot more. It’s just a really exciting time!
I do need to go shopping for office gear sometime soon! New wardrobeeeee! :D
Me and the bf have been together for three and a half very happy years today! ♥
Off to Pizza Express to celebrate later, it’s one of my favey restaurants! He took me there for the first time exactly three years ago, i’d never been before, and it was amazing! I already know what i’m going to have later….sod the diet i’ve got three courses of italian goodness to nom through tonight!
(In other top secret news, today has been very important in the life of amelia, but i’m not at liberty to discuss details just yet for fear of jinxing the way of the world!)
Hair washing, nail painting, clothes sorting and internet surfing! All more important than they may seem, honest! I might squeeze in a nap at some point too. I’ve hardly slept at all this past weekend because my silly brain just wouldn’t switch off….thanks for that subconscious.
In other news, Holly and Phil are on This Morning again which makes me happy! :)
Just went out for Sunday dinner with my mum, dad and nanny. I absolutely love telling my nan about technology because it genuinely astounds her! Last week it was the wonders of Sky+ and being able to pause live television, to which she was amazedand even phoned my dad about an hour after we dropped her off to ask more questions!
Tonight we were discussing the wonders of estate agent websites. She just couldn’t believe that you can sit at home and look at houses across the country on the internet! You can see inside the house and everything?!! Bless her :)
Off out tonight for a few quiet drinks with worky people for the jonny bee’s birthday! I’m still on anti-biotics though so diet coke will be my best friend for the night as i watch everyone else around me get silly!
I’m currently sat watching Celebrity Total Wipeout and eating my Viennese Truffles instead of getting ready….something i’m sure i will regret soon when i realise i don’t have enough time to wash my hair and end up looking like a tramp! It’s such a funny programme though! There’s something hilarious about people falling on their faces! Takeshi’s Castle is another personal favourite of mine!
Spose i best go get ready….before The X Factor comes on :P
Totally didn’t make it to my combat class this morning!
Gym - 0 : Extra Sleep - 1
Still going to drag myself to do some exercise in a bit though and have a wander into town. Need to fill up my car too. Life is too expensive right now, hurry up pay day! Tempted to go watch Eat Pray Love at some point as well, the trailers are intriguing me lots.
oooh psych help....I do have a q. do you think therapy can help dealing with family issues? I've been told to seek therapy to resolve some past trauma/ current issues with my family, but I'm a bit reluctant to take that step.
I think to get the full benefits of therapy you need to want to be there. A good therapist will simply facilitate the session to help you help yourself, no-one is qualified enough to tell you your own mind.
I do think that therapy is extremely beneficial for a whole spectrum of problems including family issues. However, i think there is still a stigma attached to therapy or counselling sessions suggesting that by seeing a professional for your issues means you’re crazy or weak minded. It’s complete rubbish. Don’t let anyone else’s opinions, or even your own stigmas prevent you from working through problems that may be upsetting you ♥
I did some overtime at work today and had a lovely lovely day!
Spent the day working on recruitment stuff i’m involved in this year and being very productive. I could definitely see myself doing this kind of job full time, i’m really enjoying it! It’s just a shame my workplace only does it once a year and it’s the first time i’ve had the chance to take part in it.
Got a day off tomorrow though, so i’m off to a combat class in the morning and then i might have a mooch round town for some new shoes with a costa.
Hi Amelia :)
I'm an introverted girl and it's generally really hard for me to express my emotions (apart from happiness) freely. I'm also rather stoic, so I usually put on a poker face whenever I encounter hardships in my life. However, this doesn't go well with my friends, who often think of me as an emotionless person.
For example, when one of my friends had to move to another country, I didn't even tear up when everyone else was crying a river and in the end other friends called me heartless because of that. There was also a time when a guy was telling me about his problem (he liked a girl who already had a boyfriend but was still toying around with his feelings) and I told him to forget about that girl because he deserved better...he ended up calling me 'having a heart made of ice'.
Is it wrong that I can't express my sympathy freely and dramatically like other people do? :( I don't really care about what they say, really, but when people start to physically harm me for being 'weird and inhumane' I can't really ignore it any more.
What should I do? Any advice would be deeply appreciated. Thank you in advance!
First of all R, everyone expresses their feelings in their own way. Just because you don’t wear your heart on your sleeve doesn’t mean you don’t have one. Not everyone feels the need to cry when they feel sad, some people just prefer to keep their feelings to themselves…your friends should understand this.
And secondly, it seems to me the advice you gave to your friend made a lot of sense. It could possibly have been the way in which you delivered your advice that hit a nerve. As you said previously, you find it difficult to express sympathy so your advice to ‘forget her’ without adding a sympathetic note may have sounded more like ‘just man-up and forget about it’ instead of ‘i understand you have feelings for her and this is upsetting you, but anyone who treats you this way isn’t worth the heartache’. His name calling was unnecessary, but i’m sure he was probably just upset and didn’t really mean it.
The part that worries me the most about your question is where you mention being physically harmed by other people for your stoic demeanour. This is in no way acceptable and shouldn’t be something you have to ignore…it shouldn’t be happening at all. Is there anyone you can talk to about this very serious issue? Don’t be afraid to speak up and ask for help, i can guarantee you’re not alone and there will be a way through it all.
If you need someone to talk to, i’m here to listen ♥
im being bullied at school because i have really bad acne. i know it's really childish, but it really gets me down and makes me so sad sometimes. i've tried loads of stuff, but its just not going away and it wont cover up, mum said she'll pay for any stuff that could help, but i don't know where to start.
you've got lovely skin, how do you keep it so clear? i'll try anything :(
Want to know a secret anonymous?
I was bullied at school for my acne too. I’ve suffered with it really badly for 10 years now and it’s only in the past 3 years it’s cleared up. My skin really isn’t perfect, i’m left with a few scars and i still get breakouts like most people.
I had two courses of Roaccutane in my teens which eventually helped calm things down, but i really suffered with the side effects, so definitely think twice before taking that. If you haven’t already, you could go speak to your doctor and ask about the possible drug treatments to help clear up your skin, but be prepared to try a lot of different kinds and remember, it wont clear up overnight.
Cosmetics wise, i use Clinique’s Anti-blemish 3 Step System along with an apricot exfoliater and it’s a real winning combination for me! It can be a pretty pricey package to start up, but it does last a long time, so maybe ask mum about that. I tried every foundation under the sun before finding Clinique’s Superbalanced Liquid Foundation. It is honestly the best i’ve ever used and as long as you get properly colour matched it looks great! Try using a brush to apply it and finishing with some of Clinique’s Barely There powder with SPF15 to keep it in place and reduce any shine.
I know how upsetting having acne can be, especially when you have other people making it worse for you, but just remember, it will clear up eventually and acne or not, you’re still you under there. One day you’ll find someone who can see that too and nothing else will matter.
Hello Psychologicaly Trained Amelia! :D
I have a problem with stubborn blu-tac. On the ceiling (That I will end up painting) there are lots and lots of blu-tac that has been there for years and years, and it's turned quite solid. What is the best way to remove it quickly and effectively?
Thank you! :) x
How about using a paint scraper thingy?
….and if your pesky blu-tac causes any holes in said ceiling, a bit of pollifilla will patch them right up before you paint!
Clearly i should have done a decorating degree with such quality advice given here.
I’ve been painting all day and then extra shifts at work! Busy busy busy. But if it gets extra money then it’s all good i suppose! Plus when i’m painting i get to spend the day with my boyfriend….he’s a pretty hot boss ;)
Got a full day of overtime at work tomorrow trying to shift through applications and find new people to come work with us. Should be a fun day, but i’m determined not to snack while doing it. It’s so tempting when your sat at a desk to nibble on naughty things, i’m already putting on lots of weight!
Once my backs better i’ll be back at the gym getting super fit…..promise!
I’ve stayed in such beautiful places this year i’d love to go back to any of them even for a few days. Real luxury holidays with the people i love most in the sunshine relaxing for weeks at a time.
One day, i’d like to be so rich that i could go to these places whenever i wanted for as long as i wanted! Actually, if i was that rich, i’d go to Japan for a few weeks and really explore the old temples and bask in the tackiness of Tokyo! But i’d have to do it properly. I think if you travel somewhere, you have to give it your all. Stay in lovely hotels, eat amazing food and have lots of spending money to do the things you want to do. I will go back to Florida again one day too, and visit an exclusive island in the Maldives!
I guess i best buy a lottery ticket and keep my fingers crossed…
"what's everyone up to this week, anything fun? :)"
Well, unfortunately, I'm having to go to work, 9-5 (Or more like 8-4:30 as I prefer leaving early) Though this evening I'm arranging a night out with my friend who lives 5 hours away, tomorrow evening I'm having a friend round who was in a climbing accident over the weekend. (He fell and hit his head, but he's ok. He was filmed by the BBC as well!) Wednesday I'm off to my new house to continue decorating/destroying my room. Thursday, I'm hopefully going to the cinema to see a free screening of Four Weddings and A Funeral, Friday is free, and the weekend will be spent decorating. :)
What about you? Jetting off to France again? Alton Towers? ;) x
Sounds like you’ve got a jam packed week ahead! At least you’ve got fun things after work to look forward too. Good luck with the new house, that’s exciting stuff!
Sadly my week mainly consists of working extra hours, painting houses and job searching! I wish i was jetting off to France! Brb, just off to Paris for a few days….in my dreams! ♥
I think its about time for me to accept that it is now autumn as I just had to switch my heated blanket on for bedtime. Yes I have a heated blanket at the age of 22. They are brilliant inventions and in no way are they limited to those over the age of 65. Every bed should own one!
I was also tempted to put on a coat this evening on the way to our local bar. Its not that I hate autumn, it’s a really pretty season and marks the beginning of a new wardrobe and halloween. But it is sad to have to wave bye bye to our non-existent english summer for another year.
It’s September now which means it’s ok to start planning halloween costumes! We wanted to do Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland but some silly people said it was too difficult for them so we’ve had to have a bit of a re-think. We’re thinking of Mighty Boosh characters but nothings final just yet….
We’ve already done Vampires & Werewolves, Pre-historic people, Where’s Wally, Harry Potter, Superheroes, Mimes, Rock/Music Stars, Corpse Bride, and Sweeney Todd over the past few years for birthday’s and halloween’s! We want to try do something creepy or weird seeing as it’s a spooky holiday!
Anyone got any good theme ideas for a large group of people?
Why is it so chilly in this country right now? We’re definitely waving bye bye to a summer never had and starting to see the first signs of autumn. The days are getting shorter and i’ve practically forgotten what the sun looks like, our skies are perpetually a mass of grey cloud. I’m sat here in a giant hoodie with my low energy heater on full blast and i’m still shivering. Mum and Dad are refusing to put the heating on trying to cling onto the last stint of mild weather, but it’s a lost battle i reckon. How depressing.
In other news, i’m still feeling like total poo. Hoping it will bugger off before the weekend so i can enjoy being out drinking wine and eating nice food. I also need to get to the gym properly to work off all the rubbish i’ve been pigging on, but it’s just impossible to muster the energy to do a decent gym session when you feel rubbish. Next week, fingers crossed.
