OPENING TIMES FOR THE BIRMINGHAM CHRISTMAS MARKET

The Birmingham Christmas Market is the largest authentic German market outside of Germany and Austria and is open from November 7th to the 23rd of December (10am to 9pm).

WHAT’S ON

With traditional Christmas market stalls lining the streets of Birmingham, at the market you can find handmade gifts, delicious food and of course lots of tasty drinks!

Try a bratwurst, some gluhwein or a giant pretzel and buy traditional and quirky decorations for your Christmas tree or presents for those you love, all whilst being serenaded by live music and the twinkling festive lights!

If you’re feeling brave you could even try your hand at ice skating or ride the big wheel for some beautiful views of the city.

There are toilets especially for market guests (so you don’t have to worry about that one!) and they’re pretty clean too. The market does get busy at the weekends so prepare for some crowd control and dedicated walking areas to make sure everyone can get round. You are able to walk with your drinks and look at the market stalls but not passed certain sign posted points.

An of course, remember to wrap up warm as it’s all outside!

Where to Stay for The Birmingham Christmas Market

The Birmingham Christmas Market has become quite the tradition for us each year (even more so than my bakewell mince pies!), so this year we decided to make a night of it and stay over in Birmingham at the weekend. There are plenty of hotels in Birmingham City Centre but for a group of 3 or 4, this can get quite pricey. So this time we stayed at the City Nites serviced apartments, opposite the Birmingham arena and just 3 minutes walk from the canals.

We had a two bedroom apartment between the 3 of us with two en suite bathrooms, a living room, dining table and a kitchen so we could come and go as we pleased. We ordered in some food with a bottle of mulled wine to eat in the comfort of our own little living room with the Christmas tree twinkling away and a festive dvd on the telly – bliss!

When it was time to hit the Christmas markets it was just a 10 minute walk to the centre and really easy to find from our apartment. City Nites is a great option if you’re visiting the markets as a group – or even a couple as they offer 1 bed apartments too – and want your own space to use as you please. Also, if you book direct with City Nites, you get a reduced security deposit AND a priority check in – score!

So when you’re planning your Christmas festivities this year, make sure you take a trip to the Birmingham Christmas Market and grab a mulled wine or two! Save a pretzel for me!
