Manchester, England. Possibly one of the coolest cities we have on our little island and the PERFECT city for a romantic couples night away. But with so many beautiful boutique hotels in the city, how do you know which one to choose for your relaxing couples getaway?!
I’ve stayed in a number of boutique hotels in Manchester over the years, perfect for couples, including the ultra cool Hotel Gotham and the sexy little Manchester Malmaison, but the Northern Quarter was calling me again and I love to discover new and independent boutique hotels in the city, so it was time to explore!
Introducing The Cow Hollow Hotel. A small and boutique luxury hotel in Manchester that’s PERFECT for a cosy couples night away in style!
A fully restored Victorian textile warehouse with ultra modern and super stylish rooms in the middle of the Northern Quarter, The Cow Hollow is surrounded by some awesome restaurants and bars and just a 5 minute walk from Picadilly Gardens.
THE ROOMS
With Kingsize Hypnos Beds, luxurious sheets and goose down pillows you’re sure to get a glorious night’s sleep at The Cow Hollow. The rooms have adorable wooden shutters and blinds to keep the sunlight out until you’re ready to get up (there’s no set check out time – within reason – so schedule that well deserved lie in!) and they provide you with ear plugs in case you’re a light sleeper and the sound of a city keeps you awake.
There’s Netflix access on the wall mounted flatscreen tv which makes for a seriously cosy night in, Bluetooth Speakers and the exposed brick walls and wooden ceiling beams create such a stylish but homely feel. One thing to note is there isn’t any wardrobe space, but you can hang coats, shirts and dresses on the hangers provided by the door – for one night it’s not really an issue.
In the bathroom you’ll find a copper monsoon shower, REN products and a glam station to help you get ready including hairdryer, hair straighteners AND hair curlers. Win.
And there’s a full length mirror int he bedroom and beauty mirror int he bathroom to help with makeup and outfit choices – always appreciated in a city hotel when you’re off for a romantic couples night away!
FREEBIES
We love a freebie in this country and they come by the bucket load at The Cow Hollow. With free prosecco and nibbles in the bar between 6-8pm, super fast wifi, quality tea and coffee available 24/7, milk and cookies before bed AND a complimentary continental breakfast in bed with all rooms, what’s not to love!
THE HOTEL
The hotel itself is tiny but smart, well designed, and as cool as they come. There’s a small lobby bar with staff that mix up excellent cocktails and know the city inside and out. They’re a wealth of knowledge of where’s good to eat and drink for your night out and are just so incredibly friendly. Rack their brains when you head down for your complimentary glass of fizz and nibbles but be prepared to be spoilt for choice with their eatery recommendations!
The drinks selection at the bar is great and each drink is priced the same (£9 cocktails, £7 wine, £5 beers and £5 spirits) which makes things very, very easy! I can vouch for the cocktails as we added two to our booking t enjoy when we arrived and they were quite simply delicious – and very reasonable for the quality in the middle of the city.
Down the stairs they have a lounge area with tea and coffee available 24/7 and they also put out milk and cookies before bed time.
It’s incredibly cute and a great place to chill after a long day shopping or sight seeing before you get ready for your night on the town.
THE VERDICT
We had a wonderful stay at The Cow Hollow and a such a fun and romantic night away in Manchester! The breakfast was light but delicious and my coffee with that creamy fruity Granola was just what the Dr ordered after a night on those bar cocktails!
When I travel I always bring my silk sleep mask and a set of good ear plugs just in case, as I’m a bit of a light sleeper. I used both during the night we spent here because although not a loud part of the city, it was Saturday night and I slept a little better shutting out all the light and party street noise – worth packing if you struggle to drop off like me. But that sink into mattress and the luxurious bedding were heaven, and once I was gone, I was out for the night!
I can’t recommend The Cow Hollow enough for a romantic couples night away in Manchester. It’s honestly one of the best boutique hotels I’ve stayed at around the city and I wouldn’t hesitate to book again.
