A couple of months back Joe and I went to stay in a luxury retreat up in the Yorkshire Moors called Ox Pasture Hall where we enjoyed a relaxing weekend with lots of food and fizz by a roaring log fire, it was lovely. On the evening we had the pleasure of dining in their restaurant and alongside our brilliant food we were served a small palette cleanser of Bourbon Ice and Passion Fruit Frozen Foam which completely stole the show! After our meal we couldn’t stop thinking of that little shot glass so I decided to design a cocktail re-creating those flavours to enjoy at home resulting in The Ox Pasture Passion!
On the hunt for Passoa (a passion fruit liqueur) I stumbled across a bottle of Mango Vodka from Absolut on offer at just £10. I picked it up on a whim and had a quick re-think with my mixers and my tropical bourbon cocktail was born…
How To
1 Shot Jim Beam Honey
1 Shot Absolut Mango Vodka
2 Shots Passion Fruit Juice
Half a Passion Fruit
Dash of Angostura Bitters
– Add the bourbon, vodka and passion fruit juice to a shaker full of ice
– Scoop out the centre of your passion fruit and add to the shaker followed by a dash of bitters
– Shake it baby!
– Strain into your favourite tumbler over ice and garnish with half a passion fruit
It’s super fresh and fruity with a manly edge delivered by the bourbon and bitters making it perfect for ladies and gents alike. The mango vodka adds another level to the tropical flavour of the passion fruit juice and the slight sweetness of the honey bourbon balances out the bitters perfectly – we love it! So thank you Ox Pasture Hall for the inspiration, our bottle of bourbon is feeling a lot more sociable now after hanging out on it’s own on the rocks for far too long.
