Here’s Some Fun Things To Do in Leeds This Weekend!

I was staying at the Mercure Leeds City Centre hotel and it was so close to everything I was able to walk for the majority of the weekend and discover little shops and cafes along the way. I wanted to go and see the Marks Building and find out a little about it’s history, so that was my first adventure!

Museums in Leeds

Inside the Marks Building in Leeds, there is a free exhibition all about the history and provenance of Marks and Spencer which was born in Leeds over 130 years ago!
Take a look back in time and see the progression of fashion, food and shopping trends throughout the centuries and even watch some of their old TV adverts!

The exhibition is open from 10-5pm Monday-Friday and is one of the great free things to do in Leeds if you have a spare hour or like me are interested in fashion.

If you’re looking to get crafty and embrace the creative spirit of Leeds, then you could always find a craft workshop in the city like this jewellery making class at The Bowery Cafe! It was so much fun and they even let us loose with blow torches to weld our pieces together!

Check out what’s on the dates you visit and try out something new!

Best Restaurants in Leeds

Food is a big pull for me whenever I visit a new city so I was determined to find the best restaurants in Leeds to enjoy!

In the day for a coffee stop in the sunshine I found Mrs Atha’s, an independently run quirky cafe with great coffee, yummy sandwiches and super cool decor.

In the evening we went all out with a very special meal at Stockdales of Yorkshire and oh my was it good! They age and dry their own steaks downstairs which really shows in the plates – I had the best filet steak I think I’ve ever had with a side of truffle fries (even better than Heston!). Heaven. For dessert a boozy affogato to follow on from their great wine selection too. Not the cheapest, but the perfect place for a special occasion or fancy night out.

For lunch the next day we ventured into Red’s True BBQ for a huge meat feast and we weren’t disappointed! If you’re into craft ale, quirky cocktails, spicy meat and loaded fries then THIS is your place! You have to try the Swine Fries and ‘Frickles’ (deep fried pickles) on the side!

Rooftop Bars in Leeds

If it’s cocktails you’re after and you’re lucky with the weather then you must hit up some of Leeds rooftop bars in the city! We absolutely LOVED Angelica Bar in Leeds in the Trinity Centre, for delicious cocktails out on their terrace that we’re horrendously priced either. There’s also the Alchemist around the other side if you can find a seat at Angelica’s – it gets pretty busy!

Shopping in Leeds

After your rooftop cocktails you might want to hit to shops, and the shopping in Leeds is amazing! The Victoria Centre in Leeds looks like something out of the Great Gatsby and there’s also lots of little vintage and handmade shops too!

Hunt down an adorable place called Our Handmade Collective in the Grand Arcade and find some quirky and unique bits and bobs from jewellery to handmade cards, candles and more!

Hotels in Leeds – Where To Stay

Of course you’re going to need somewhere cool to stay in Leeds when you visit – and the Mercure Leeds City Centre is perfect for that! With it’s interior design taking inspiration from the local area around it and Leeds’ textile heritage, it’s the perfect place to stay for a romantic, girly or business trip to Leeds.

The rooms were airy with comfortable beds, good sized bathrooms and quirky features. Downstairs you’ll find their hotel bar The Loom and the restaurant, alongside a textiles themed lobby complete with chair made from an old tweed suit!

The staff were amazing and it was the perfect place to stay for our girly weekend in Leeds – we loved it!
