10 Bedroom Cleaning Hacks: Refresh your mattress and more!
I’m just going to say it, I love sleep! But like a lot of us with busy brains, it doesn’t always come easily.
Over the years i’ve collected quite a few handy tips to make sure my bedroom is at the top of its game to help me get a good night’s sleep. We spend around 8 hours every single day snuggled up in bed, which means a) we need to be investing in a good quality mattress, pillow and bedding, and b) we need to keep them all clean.
I’m going to run you through my top hacks to help clean and calm your bedroom…
Welcome to your new dreamy sleep sanctuary!
I’ve also teamed up with TEMPUR® to give away one of their luxury pillows worth £99 – Take a look at how to enter at the end of this post!
Refresh Your Mattress in 30 Minutes!
Baking soda & Essential Oils to deodorize!
Shake up a cup of baking soda with 20 drops of essential oils in an old jam jar. I love lavender, rosemary and eucalyptus for my oils as I find the smell very comforting, but have a play around with different scenst! Top tip: Eucalyptus oil also helps to kill mold and dust mites. So by adding that into your baking soda mix, it not only makes things smell nice but also helps keep the nasties away!
Then, once mixed, sieve the baking soda mix directly over your mattress (no protectors or sheets) and leave for 30 mins. Hoover off the baking soda and boom, instant deodorized and lovely smelling mattress!
I refresh my mattress like this once a week when I change my sheets and its made such a difference. Don’t forget your headboard too – give it a good old dust and vacuum front and back!
Changing the Sheets
Speaking of changing the sheets, how often do you change yours? Once a week is best, every two weeks as a minimum!
Make sure to give them a good wash with the highest temperature your sheets can take – this helps to ensure all the bugs are killed so they’re super fresh.
As for ironing…if you’ve got the time then go for it! For me, no crease bed linen is the future and makes life a LOT easier!
High Quality Sleep Gear
We spend a LOT of time asleep so why do we often begrudge investing in good quality sleep gear? Since I invested in a good quality mattress and pillow my sleep has been so much better and I really look forward to getting into bed every night. Couple that with some posh bed linen and I feel like I’m in a luxury hotel in my own home!
Make sure you get the right weight duvet for your bedroom too. If your house is hot you might need to lower the tog rating to make things more comfortable and vice versa. Down-like duvets are also often used in fancy hotels, so they’re a good one to buy if you want that luxury bedtime feeling at home!
If you’re investing in a good quality mattress and pillow, don’t forget to buy a protector for them. Yes it’s another expense on top of your initial outlay, but 100% worth it. We tend to sweat at night and also drink tea/coffee in bed which can easily get knocked over and stain! Protectors really help keep things clean as they can be washed alongside your bedding too.
Make Your Own Linen Sleep Spray!
If you want to keep your bed smelling amazing every day, why not make your own calming linen spray! Mix 2 tablespoons of witch hazel or vodka with 10 drops of essential oil. Lavender is great for sleep, and remember the helpful properties or eucalyptus from earlier too? Pop them in a spray bottle with 6 tablespoons of filtered water and you’re good to go.
I like to leave my bed open throughout the day to help it air out a little and give it a quick spritz before heading out for the day.
And finally, once my bedroom is nice and clean, I like to make sure there’s no distractions that get in the way of me dropping off. No tv in the bedroom, a restriction on my social media apps, and even a eye mask and ear plugs! Diva mode = on!
Nothing gets between me and a good night’s sleep!
