How To Stop Nail Polish From Chipping

There’s nothing worse than spending ages neatly painting your nails to look beautiful and then noticing a chip the very next day! Sometimes it seems that no matter how much you spend on a bottle of polish or how carefully you paint them they never seem to last longer than a few days without some sort of wear and tear which is incredibly frustrating, and as the majority of us can’t afford to get a professional mani every week to touch them up there has to be an easier way. So here’s how to stop nail polish from chipping…How to Prep Your Nails Tutorial, how to stop your nail polish from chipping

Never fear ladies because I‘ve got the secret to making that polish last without resorting to gels or expensive salon time – too good to be true?

There are just a few simple steps to follow to stop your nails from chipping.

Take a look at my tutorial on how to stop nail polish from chipping below and see!

What you’ll need:

– A Nail File

– An Orange Stick

– Buffing Block

– Nail Polish Remover and Cotton Pads

– A Good Base and Top Coat

…and your favourite nail polish colour!

Step 1: file your nails smoothly in one direction and shape them however you like. Ensure that all of your nails are the same length and shape.

Step 2: use an orange stick to push back the cuticles and make them nice and neat. The best time to do this is after a hot bath or shower, as this will soften your cuticles.

Step 3: use a buffing bar to buff the top layer of your nails and get rid of the natural oils on the surface.

Step 4: wipe your nails with standard nail polish remover on a cotton pad to get rid of any dust and the remainder of any oils.

Step 5: paint on your base coat. This helps to create a barrier between your nail polish and the natural oils on your nail.

Step 6: apply a couple of coats of your chosen nail polish colour – remember to keep the coats thin for the win! Paint right to the end of your nails without going over the cuticles.

Step 7: apply a thin layer of top coat, ensuring that the whole nail is covered and then cap your nails by running the brush horizontally over the edge of your nail.

It’s so easy anyone can do it and I promise you’ll notice a big difference in the longevity of your manicure – my current set have been on for six days chip free AND have survived a kickboxing lesson too!
