My Wardrobe ‘Feel Good’ Transition Pieces

It sounds superficial but slipping into a pretty dress or just a new outfit in general can make me feel so much better.

I’m terrible for keeping outfits ‘for best’ or for those days where you’re more likely to see a lot of people! (I can’t be the only one who does this?!). And sometimes I feel like a certain item of clothing isn’t ‘worthy’ of just a pop to the shops or a casual coffee, yet when I’m there I wish I’d dressed better.

But finding a dress that works on quite a few levels is a brilliant way to break that cycle! Been spotted in it already? Switch it up with a pair of brogues and an updo instead of pumps and long locks. Feeling too fancy for a trip to Tesco, rock your converse and a baggy cardi over the top. Bought it in summer? Pop on a pair of tights and some ankle boots and it takes you through to autumn winter.

And the best part? Putting on a tea dress never fails to make you feel pretty. Actual Real Life Fact.

I have a number of tea dresses in my wardrobe but none of them seem to fit me as well as this little number from French Connection. You can tell the difference in quality for this staple piece as soon as you wiggle into it – and those thigh splits, gorgeous. With a plunging neckline and tapered waist, my new winter floral printed dress hugs my curves perfectly and skims over all my self-conscious bits too, all while cutting off at a very flattering length for strong legs (note: rather thick at the top legs…and proud of them).

While the hero of this outfit really should be the dress, I’m a sucker for comfort and couldn’t resist this oversized cardigan which should be pictured right smack bang next to the word ‘cozy’ in the dictionary. Super soft, super baggy and effortlessly cool it’s a match made in heaven for pretty dresses to take it down a notch or for simple skinnies and a tee….or in your Harry Potter pjs curled up on the sofa with a glass of wine! Another hero investment piece with so many options, from saving a chilly summer night to down right cold winter ones in front of the fire.

I teamed mine with some ankle boots, a chord choker (because all the cool kids are wearing them) and some mirrored aviators all from Primark and I LOVE the look. Coupled with my DKNY backpack which is incredibly dainty but surprisingly roomy for all my essential junk, it makes an uber cool but pretty outfit that made me feel a million dollars!

I’m excited to mix this combo up over the coming months and change of seasons so make sure to follow me on Instagram to see how that goes @xameliax. And check out French Connections AW17 Women’s  Clothing Collection too, they’ve got some seriously lust-worthy pieces!

What’s your go to wardrobe staple that never fails to make you feel good?
