Santa Claus Is Coming To Town | Elf The Musical

'

The other week I was invited down The Dominion Theatre to see Elf The Musical and for a 27 year old woman I got far too excited! I roped in my lovely friend Lauren and we skipped all the way to the theatre to watch one of our favourite Christmas films brought to life on stage – prepare for two hours of cheesy, chuckly and cheeky Christmas fun!

It’s always tricky to take on such a well known story and turn it to the stage, especially with such an iconic and well acted main character but the creative team did this story proud! For those who haven’t seen the film (seriously?!) then Elf The Musical is the story of a human raised by elves in the north pole after being abandoned by his parents and accidentally sneaking into Santa’s sack! The enthusiastic Buddy the Elf heads off to New York City to find his real father and restore the cities Christmas Spirit to help Santa’s sleigh fly!

Ben Forster as Buddy was fantastic and did a great job of filling Will Ferrells (winter)boots – what a voice – I have no idea how he finds that kind of energy every night! Jenny Dale stole the show for me as Mr Hobb’s hilarious assistant Deb – she was incredibly witty and had me chuckling in my seat! There were jokes for the adults as well as the kids and it was wonderfully perky throughout just like the film.

The songs were amazing and I’ve got the soundtrack on my Christmas list – we were singing all the way down the street when we left the theatre! The staging was also excellent and very cleverly done especially a little Santa surprise at the end. Elf The Musical had all the best bits from the film we know and love whilst also managing to twist the story to fit the stage and include all those magical musical numbers.

Elf The Musical is brilliant for spreading some serious Christmas cheer this festive season and is such a feel-good musical! Even in November we left feeling super Christmassy and couldn’t stop smiling – if you love the film you need to book tickets and see Elf The Musical…whether you’ve got kids of not! #noshame

Elf The Musical is running at The Dominion theatre until 2nd January 2016 and you can book your tickets from the box office here.

Have you seen Elf The Musical? What did you think? Which Christmas film would you like to see turned into a musical?
