YO! Sushi is one of those restaurants that is never empty. Every single time I’ve walked past one of those carousels it’s been surrounded by happy diners clacking away with their chopsticks and a queue of eager people patiently waiting for a seat. With it’s winning combination of tasty, fresh food and quirky dining concept YO! Sushi is the perfect option for any Japanese food loving diner looking for lunch.

When we first met Joe was a fish-o-phobe having never really tried many varieties and feeling a little nervous about cooking it at home. But we’ve had the pleasure of dining in many wonderful places around the world in our time together and with a bit of encouragement he’s tried everything from cod to caviar and is now a big fish fan meaning he was really excited for his first YO! Sushi experience! We were invited along to their Harvey Nics branch in Knightsbridge (conveniently right across the road from our hotel) where we had a private table reserved at the side. Our friendly waitress came over to explain how it all worked and we ordered two of my favourite Japanese beers Kirin Ichiban while we surveyed the belt!

After discovering we both had a weakness for them at Wagamamas, a bowl of Edamame Beans were the first thing picked while we took a look through the full menu. I picked off a couple of plates of fresh sushi for us to share so we got a taste of everything before we placed an order for some hot dishes – Katsu Curry and Vegetable Yaki Soba (two other favourites from our trip to Wagamama!). The sushi at Yo is always tip top, super fresh and tastes fantastic. With interesting and classic flavour combos there really is something for everyone with the menu explaining what they all are too. Each dish is colour coded so you can add up how much you’re spending along the way – just pick up a plate, enjoy and stack, it’s as easy as that. Having only ever had sushi at Yo before I was really impressed with how quickly the hot food came and how great it tasted to boot. Like your sushi you just stack up the plates at pay at the end – and make sure you try and grab a plate of the Teriyaki and Garlic Beef, it’s amazing.

With a teetering pile of different dishes, four beers and full bellies our bill came in at just under £40* which was a figure we’d be happy to pay again for the quality of food and fun we had eating it. If you’re looking for a different kind of place to lunch with loads of flavour and variety then YO! Sushi is the one.
