Places to visit in Sheffield

Sponsored post with Sheffield: The Outdoor City -ad-

We love city breaks – exploring a new part of the world, finding great places to eat and drink and generally just getting away from it all. The most recent city on our ‘to visit’ list was Sheffield!

Just a couple of hours up the road close to the peak district is a super cool city with a great theatre scene, fantastic eats and a very cool vibe indeed. Here’s what we got up to on our weekend away and my top places to visit in Sheffield…

What to Do

A Walk in the Peak District

xameliax

We love a good hike, especially one as beautiful as this and there are plenty of places to visit in Sheffield for a good ramble. Just 30 mins out of the city you’re in the Peak District and surrounded by nature. There’s easy walks and big hikes depending on what you’re after and the routes are very easy to navigate. We wished we’d have bought our little spaniel Toby with us on our hike around the reservoir, he would have loved it and we’ll certainly be heading back for more walks.

Time for Some Shopping!

Have you had a proper city break without a mooch round the shops? Sheffield has a buzzing independent shopping scene over in Hunters Bar on Ecclesall Road with adorable boutiques, jewellery shops, salons and bars. Take a wonder down the road and see what takes your fancy, stop for a coffee or a cocktail and find a trinket or two to take home!

Sheffield’s Theatre Scene

With the Lyceum and the Crucible theatres smack bang in the centre of the city, Sheffield is sure to put on a show! With loads of west end smash hits passing through, booking a ticket to the theatre is the perfect way to spend an evening in the city! We got tickets to Heathers at the Lyceum one night during our break and it was absolutely FANTASTIC! We popped out for dinner and drinks before taking a gentle walk over to the theatre for the show and it was the perfect evening in a beautiful theatre. Highly recommended to book a ticket for something fabulous when you visit!

Visit the Winter/Botanical Gardens

The Winter Gardens and The Botanical Gardens in Sheffield are absolutely beautiful! Take a wander around, grab a coffee nearby and learn about the gorgeous flora and fauna housed here.

The building for the Winter Gardens is really impressive – a giant tropical greenhouse right in the centre of town. They have a cafe inside and it’s perfect for a rainy day activity if you’re not as lucky as we were with the weather!

Best Places to Eat & Drink

Ok, so you’ve got your activities planned, now it’s time eat! We absolutely loved the foodie scene in Sheffield so here are our top picks for places to eat and drink in the city!

Places to visit in Sheffield

Pina

Margaritas and Tacos

Address: 3 Harvest Ln, Neepsend, Sheffield S3 8EF

If you’re looking for a cool bar to sit back and enjoy a couple of cocktails with a snack then Pina is your place! With AWESOME margaritas, delicious tacos and super friendly staff, you have to pop in for one (or three!) before you go out for dinner! Highly recommend: their spicy chilli margarita and the pork tacos outside in their cute beer garden on a sunny day! Oh, and these white chocolate churros….HEAVEN!!!!

Marmadukes

Great Breakfast/Lunch Spot

Address: 22 Norfolk Row, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield S1 2PA

Places to visit in Sheffield

If you’re looking for a great place for breakfast, brunch or lunch, then Marmadukes is your place. Delicious modern brunch dishes like fancy avocado on sourdough, good coffee and waffles galore, it’s the perfect place to sit, eat and watch the world go by.

Kommune

Fun Place for Evening Eats

Address: Castle House, Angel St, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield S3 8LS

Places to visit in Sheffield, kommune

Can’t decide to what have for dinner? Kommune is your place. It’s basically an indoor food market with delicious stalls serving everything from pizza to curry, falafel to dumplings and of course there’s a bar too! Order on the app and have it delivered to your table or take a wander around and pick from the different stalls. You can even order from them to collect and take back to your air bnb if you fancy eating in one night.

We had Korean Fried Chicken from one of the stalls and it was quite frankly the BEST thing we’ve eaten for a long time. It’s not really one for a romantic meal out, it’s got more of a student vibe, but the quality and variety of food is amazing. So much fun!

Temple of Fun

Drinks & Games

Address: 4a Rutland Way, Sheffield S3 8DG

Styled like an old church, Temple of Fun is a cool little place by the river for a few drinks during your stay. Great craft ale and a good selection of spirits plus a strong vegan menu and cool interiors. Grab a drink and have a few games on their retro arcade machines!

Nam Song

Vietnamese Restaurant

Address:  8 Dyson Pl, Sharrow, Sheffield S11 8XX

Nestled in the up and coming Dyson Place, Nam Song is a great little independent eatery for delicious Vietnamese dishes. Huge comforting bowls of Pho, warm buns and spring rolls, if you like Asian flavours this is the place for you. Pop in here for some food before taking a wander around Hunters Bar for your shopping!

We absolutely loved our trip to Sheffield and could have easily done another couple of days. With beautiful walks around the Peak District, awesome places to eat and drink and a lovely bustling but calm vibe around the city, it’s definitely one to visit.

Whether you’re with friends, as a couple or with family, there’s something for everyone and Sheffield should definitely be on your list to explore!
