Back to reality we go after yet another stunning trip away! A couple of weeks ago I flew off to sunny Mexico for a week of all inclusive luxury at The Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya and it was absolutely gorgeous. I’ve got a full hotel review here for you but in this post I just wanted to share a few of our holiday snaps and let you know what we got up to!
Bikini – Primark | Cat Eye Sunglasses – River Island
We spent the majority of our week relaxing in the sun on our own mini private beach with a crystal clear cove – it was like paradise! We had our waiter who wasn’t shy bringing over beer and cocktails as we lazed on our cabana reading and just taking time to think with the sea gently lapping at the stone steps and the palm trees rustling in the breeze. We both slept for hours when we first arrived – you don’t realise just how full on life is until you escape and in all honesty we both just ate, drank and did a big fat nothing for most of the week, just how we like our holidays!
Bikini – New Look | Kimono – New Look
Slydes – AKA the most comfortable flip flops EVER!
There was so much wildlife in and around our resort including giant iguanas! It was fascinating and we felt like we were on a nature reserve – they all loved having their photo taken! We found Agoutis which are Mayan Rodents that look like giant guinea pigs and some beautiful birds, not to mention all the creatures in the water too.
One day we took a trip to Akumal Bay to swim with sea turtles after one of you lovely lot suggested it on Twitter – thank you Laura! It was a big adventure for us (even though it only required a 20 minute taxi) because we don’t tend to explore much on our sun holidays but I’m so glad we did! We were offered numerous tours on the beach and life jackets but we decided to explore on our own as the turtles are only about 50 metres out and SO easy to discover! Take $10 with you for a locker and don’t forget your snorkel, it’s unbelievable!
I grabbed a waterproof camera case off Amazon about 4 years ago for £15 and it’s still going strong. I wasn’t brave enough to put my newest camera in there so my photos are a little on the blurry side (someone buy me a GoPro Hero 4!) but you get the idea – the turtles were HUGE!!! Just by swimming out a little and looking down I stumbled across two sea turtles munching on the grass and happily swimming away. It was incredible and they were quite simply stunning – what an experience and totally free!
On Thursday evening we were invited to Cirque Du Soleil’s residency JOYA in Cancun and we jumped at the chance! I’m going to be writing up a whole blog post on our experience as we enjoyed a stunning 3 course meal with Champagne and if you’re near Cancun then this is seriously a MUST. We got all dressed up and had the most magical evening, I’d definitely look at doing something similar on our next holiday.
On our last day we visited the spa for a couples hot stone massage and I got a new set of gel nails too which was the perfect end to our holiday. The spa was lovely (more on that tomorrow) and we felt totally relaxed after our pamper – massages have become a bit of a holiday tradition for us and I’m not complaining!
Our holiday was beautiful and just what the doctor ordered, the flying for 7 days was fine too and we didn’t really miss out on much more relaxation time than our usual short haul holidays. The weather was glorious, the food plentiful and even though we both put on quite a few of the lbs we lost before jetting off it was totally worth it!
Batteries = officially re-charged.
