A couple of weeks ago TheBar.com got in touch asking if I’d like to work with them on a cocktail post to help inspire all you amateur mixologists out there and because I can never turn down an opportunity to play with some spirits, I said yes please! So read on for my alternative mojito recipes…
I’m still loving my new cocktail set (did you see my amazing Gintlime Fizz creation?) and I often whip up a few of my favourite cocktails at the weekend before we head out on the town, we’re racking up quite the impressive drinks cabinet now!
Today we’re trying some alternative Mojito recipes – one of my all time favourite cocktails!
Mojito’s are traditionally made with rum but I’ve decided to show you two alternative mojito recipes from TheBar.com’s library that you can whip up when the rum is in short supply – or if you just want to try something a little different!
LET’S GET MIXING!
A super refreshing take on the classic, perfect for garden parties
What you’ll need:
2 shots Smirnoff vodka
3 shots Apple Juice
10ml Lime Juice (about 1 lime)
9 Mint Leaves
Slice of green apple and a wedge of lime to garnish
– Muddle mint in a tall glass
– Add lots of ice
– Pour in your vodka, apple juice and lime and stir with a long spoon to mix
– Add your apple slice and lime wedge to garnish
I topped mine up with a bit of cold soda water and it was so refreshing.
This is the perfect mojito alternative for the long summer days or a BBQ party! Just make a giant jug of the stuff and share it round with friends…there won’t be many who don’t like this cocktail creation!
This bad boy is going to blow your little socks off; if you like sour drinks, you have to try this!
What you’ll need:
1 shot good quality Tequila (Don Julio is the boooomb)
2 shots Lime Juice (about 2-3 fresh limes)
2 shots Water
4 shots Lemon Juice (about 3-4 fresh lemons)
9 Mint leaves
1 shot Sugar Syrup (optional)
– Muddle mint leaves in your cocktail shaker
– Add tequila, lime juice, lemon juice and water….SHAKE! (I added a shot of sugar syrup here)
– Strain into a tall glass filled with crushed ice
– Garnish with a lemon and lime wedge and a funky straw!
This is a cocktail sure to put hairs on your chest! I added a shot of agave sugar syrup into mine just to take the extreme sour edge off but with that little change it transformed this tequila temptation into my kind of drink!
Forget slamming down that tequila at the bar, sit back and enjoy this long lemony number with friends on a hot summer’s day.
So there we go, two alternative mojito recipes perfect for parties sure to delight any cocktail slurping guest…and don’t forget to check out TheBar.com for more amazing cocktail recipes!
