When Joe first moved in he grabbed furniture from wherever he could on a budget to fill the house and I have to say, for a young 20 something bachelor he did a pretty good job! The one thing he didn’t really get much choice on was the sofa set as it was the only one available to take home within budget so the living room ended up being pretty loud!
We’ve been wanting to change the sofa for a while but as we have plans to move to a bigger place within the next couple of years it didn’t really seem worth it – until I found my dream sofa in the NEXT sale for £250!!! I couldn’t believe it and I phoned Joe straight away to ask if we could buy it…a couple of days later I’d sold our old sofa set and we were sitting on a brand new and beautiful chair!
However, my bargain hunting turned out to be not so bargainous when we had to then replace the armchair, coffee table, lamp and side table to match…oops! But after hunting around in IKEA and online I found some gorgeous pieces that have completely transformed our living room.
We became Poang people in the corner after being dead against them and then actually sitting on one in store and falling in love. With some gorgeous new cushions that Joe’s mum and dad treated us to on the sofa, I managed to find a cheap mustard one in IKEA for the poang to tie in the colours.
Our side table is from Urban Outfitters – I didn’t even know they did furniature! – and I can’t get enough of it. They delivered super quickly and it’s just perfect for what we were looking for. It’s really unusual too! Our lamp I found through Octor.co.uk at John Lewis for £45 and again it’s quite quirky but I think it works so well with the gold side table and the mustard on our chairs.
We moved our side cabinet over to TV corner and sold our old tv stand. This cleared up so much space and makes the tv look a lot neater as everything is hidden away. And we swapped out the big red bus for some more neutral photos from IKEA until we get a chance to fill them with our own and Joe created a collage of frames for the opposite wall with the mis-match of styles we had around the house!
And last but not least, our new coffee table! I searched high and low for a retro looking table that had space to store bits and bobs underneath to keep the top looking tidy. I do most of my work in the living room so I have a lot of office stuff that I need instant access too but I don’t want cluttering up our space in the evenings. This bad boy from littlewoods (yes they’re still a thing) was PERFECT and with a little assembly from Joe it’s ideal for our new space. It feels good quality and the colour I absolutely love it.
We both adore our new space and the best part is – everything we’ve bought fits the vision we have for our new future house so we can take it all with us! In total our makeover cost around £650 as when tidying we found some old vouchers which helped buy a few things along the way! Well worth every penny.
It just goes to show with a bit of bargain hunting and a new colour scheme you really can transform a room with no paint or wallpaper required!
