With the stress of work, kids and having to fit in everything else in between, you start to realise why more and more people seem to be getting stressed out or having anxiety these days. So much to do and yet so little time! So this month I decided to jump into meditation, it is something I have heard a lot about, and I have heard a lot of people swear by it. I wanted to see exactly how it would work and make me feel. I have been doing this now for the past month, using the Calm app, which you can download on your phone for iPhone and Android, along with reading the book.

Meditation has never been easy for me, my mind is always working and thinking a hundred thoughts a minute so to be able to sit and be quiet and still, it is very hard. The good thing is they remind you that if your mind wanders it’s OK, just bring your mind back to the now. This is where the app comes in very useful as it guides you through what you need to be doing. The great thing about this app is the different meditation choices you have. There is calming anxiety, deep sleep, managing stress, loving kindness along with a whole lot more. You can choose to meditate for 3 minutes right up to 35 minutes the choice is yours. There is also great “7 days of…” meditations which encourages daily meditation on a certain topic such as calm, sleep or happiness to name a few.

I noticed whilst meditating that after a while I was starting to sleep better for a start, which is a massive thing for me, as I tend to wake up a lot during the night. I was happier and more calm, I started taking stock of a bad situation and being able to look at it calmly and more stress free. I felt I was looking at the little things we take for granted more too, I really tuned into the good things in my life and felt so grateful for them.

The book is amazing too, there is different sections to read including nature, sleep, travel, relationships, work, children, creativity and food. You don’t need to read the book in any particular order, you can just read the sections that suit you. It really does help you to get a perspective on things.

It seems clear that the Calm team have put a whole lot of effort and love into this app and are dedicated to bring mindfulness to others. I love they have made an app which is easy and convenient to use, you can do this at home or even on the train with your headphone in. I do encourage you to download the app and give it a go, it is free to download with a few meditations available, or for £7.99 a month or if you buy the yearly subscription it works out at £2.99 a month. This unlocks every meditation and is definitely worth the money, the yearly option is better if you can afford it in one go.

Highly recommended and I’m so happy I finally gave meditation a go – It’s really become a part of my life and I feel so much better for taking some time for my thoughts.
