5 Reasons To Visit Jersey

-AD | Press Trip with Visit Jersey-

Jersey. The largest of the channel islands sitting between the UK and France and quite frankly one hell of an underrated holiday destination.

Known for it’s gorgeous beaches, rich history, cliffside walks and that delicious cream – it begs the question, why aren’t more younger people holidaying to Jersey?! A stunningly beautiful island just an hour away by plane with beaches as far as the eye can sea and great weather…this needs investigating further!

So my friend Lauren and I took up the challenge and boarded our (tiny)plane to see what Jersey has to offer for a mini holiday destination…and here’s what we found!

5 Reasons to Visit Jersey

Beautiful Beaches

I don’t know about you but the beach just feels like holiday to me, and Jersey has got some STUNNING ones. White sand, vibrant blue waters and it’s own little bubble of sunshine – it really does feel like you’re on holiday abroad instead of still technically in the UK! What more could you want!

There were people sunbathing, playing beach volleyball, reading books, eating ice creams and swimming in the surprisingly warm September sea. It was so lovely to watch (and join in with!) and the best part was it wasn’t overly crowded either, just nice sand, friendly people and the salty sea air.

Surfing!

And what else can you do with the ocean right on your doorstep? Surf of course!

I’ve never tried surfing before. I thought the only place I’d be able to would be if I travelled over to Australia again! But guess what, it turns out Jersey is a pretty great place to surf! I’d always wanted to give it a go so I donned my wet suit and jumped right on in.

It was tough but the water was fiiiiiine and my instructor at Splash Surf Centre was just awesome! We had an hour out on the waves and on my final try I managed to stand up – it’s a lot harder than you think! I loved it and I can’t WAIT to do it again!!! What an experience.

The Food

We couldn’t come to the seaside and not enjoy all the fresh food there is to be had, and there’s a lot of it! From fresh seafood to Jersey Cream Teas and Michelin Star Restaurants – Jersey has a great foodie scene to explore.

On our surfing day we stopped off at a little cafe on the beach in St Ouens where we tucked into a giant bowl of fresh crab pasta which was absolutely amazing! Creamy, indulgent and packed full of the freshest crab I’ve tasted it was a wonderful way to spend a lunchtime by the sea…all washed down with a cold glass of white wine too!

If fine food is your fancy, then head on over to Bohemia in St Helier voted the 11th best restaurant in the UK and holding a highly coveted Michelin Star.

Hiding away in a hotel lobby you’ll find an incredible restaurant with a delectable tasting menu and generous wine flight from Chef Steve Smith. Friendly Staff and beautifully presented food make for a great evening if you can grab yourself a table here.

Another great place for a lovely dinner is Banjo, a contemporary Brasserie with fresh Jersey oysters, a great wine selection and one of the best steaks I’ve had in ages. Oh, and you must try the truffle fries!

And of course we couldn’t come to Jersey without trying some infamous Jersey cream on a warm scone or whipped into an ice cold creamy ice cream. Delicious!

The Weekender Festival

One of our main reasons for coming to Jersey was The Weekender Festival! A weekend full of awesome live music, funky food, cold beer, fairground rides and a whole lot of fun!

I haven’t been to a festival in ages so this was so exciting – we slapped on our face glitter and got stuck right in with awesome performances from Rag n Bone Man, Dizzee Rascal, Rita Ora and more with a fantastic atmosphere all day and night!

We went VIP in the Voodoo Lounge and it’s well worth the extra on your ticket. Nice toilets, food tickets, places to sit and an extra stage made for a very comfortable festival experience indeed! We even got henna tattoos and flower crowns for that authentic festival experience, we were like kids in a sweet shop!

Relaxation

What else do you want from a holiday or a break away if not a bit of relaxation, and you’ll certainly get it here in Jersey.

With it’s french inspired cobbled streets, fresh sea air and laid back style, Jersey is the perfect place to come and escape the hustle and bustle of every day life for a weekend or longer. Spend a day at the beach or relax by your hotel pool (yes, it really was warm enough, even in September!), enjoy a cream tea overlooking the ocean, or take a wander through the historic war tunnels and streets of this stunning island.

We felt so relaxed after our trip to Jersey, fully recharged with our minds clear. It has a certain sleepy aura that forces you to slow down and simply enjoy your time, conversations and whatever you decide to get up to during your stay.

So the next time you’re looking for a destination for your little break and don’t fancy flying for hours on end, then consider Jersey. The question is, what are you going to do first?!
