Autumn/Winter Coat Trends 2017

It’s that time of year again – time to ditch the bolero tops and start wrapping up for the cooler weather! I love treating myself to a new coat at this time of year, one that fits with the new season’s trends which seem to change so much these days.

But are we talking parkas, trench coats, pea coats or sports lux? What’s on the cards for autumn winter 2017? Well I’ve teamed up with Esprit to lay out the rules for this year’s winter warmers – welcome to your ultimate guide to 2017 coat styles!

Trench

A classic in its own right the Trench coat is traditionally a long line style coat with a top lapel that covers the shoulders or a large collar. Usually in khaki or neutral colours and belted, this year we see this classic style being brought back in full force across the board.

This classic number is a perfect example of the trench trend with the added help of a hood for keeping your hair dry on those horrible rainy days! Big double breasted buttons, belt and an oh-so-wearable neutral colour will keep you looking fabulous from Autumn to Winter and right through into Spring too.

Puffer

We saw some puffer jackets last year but they’re back again for 2017 with even more style than before. Again longer line style coats are more traditional but shorter versions are also donning our shelves along with asymmetrical finishes and an array of different colours.

Embrace the trend with this gorgeous burnt orange hue and super cosy collar. Can’t you just imagine yourself bundled up in this one trudging through the wintery snow?

Faux Fur

Similar to the parka, faux fur is a trend that always seems to reappear and it’s a fave of mine too. From a simple trim to a full blown furry coat of wonder! Just watch this one in the rain otherwise it will never be the same again!

If full faux fur isn’t your bag then this tartan number with a black faux fur trim is just perfect! With its boxy cape-like style and bold print this is a real stand out piece for the new season and how cute will that fluffy hood look up?!

Woollen

Woollen coats never seem to go out of fashion and come in a plethora of styles and lengths. You can’t beat a classic pea coat with big buttons and pockets for your gloves.

I love this classic woolen coat with the large collar and belt to synch in the waist. The singular button is super stylish with a flattering cut and length.

Leather

A leather jacket is more of a style statement than one to keep you super warm this winter but again they’re still going strong. With sharp cuts and lots of detail, a proper leather jacket is an investment piece that will keep you going year after year.

You can go as bold as you like with a leather jacket from exposed zips to studs on the collar but this classic black jacket is just perfect to keep in your collection for many seasons to come. I love the differently textured sleeves to give it a little something something – I think it smartens it up a bit too, what do you think?

Bomber

The bomber jacket is a great transition piece from autumn to winter. Khaki colours are traditional and they go with pretty much every outfit. Style down a dress or style up a pair of trousers. Have fun with this one!

I absolutely LOVE this grey bomber, with its traditional style, relaxed fit but different colouring it really will go with everything from day to night.

College-style

When I usually think of collage style coats I think of short cropped jackets with big numbers and loud college colours. But this style can also be understated and give off a more classic look.

This clever little jacket ticks two trends off in one with its college style strips and bomber shaping and cuffs – two birds one fashion stone!

What’s your favourite coat trend from this year?

You can find all of the coats and jackets above on the Esprit website.
