My little old rescue dog Wilson has a plethora of ailments in his twilight years one of them being a bit of a sensitive tummy. We keep him on an all natural diet to keep that little belly happy but sometimes it can leave dinner time looking a little boring. We recently bought him some mini training treats with cheese in that he can’t get enough of so the other week I decided to make him some of his very own all natural dog biscuits to enjoy as a snack or when he’s trying to learn a new trick!
I found a few recipes online for cheesy dog treats and adapted my recipe from a couple using ingredients that we had in the cupboard and one substitute we easily found in the supermarkets over here, so let’s go!
What You’ll Need
400g Oat Flour (we put this in our Ocado shop but try the gluten free/alternative aisles in your local supermarket)
100g Porridge Oats
100g Mature Cheddar
2 Tbsp Vegetable Oil
A Bone Shaped Cookie Cutter for adorableness
Wilson, chew like you have a secret!
1. Preheat your oven to 180oC (Gas Mark 4)
2. Grate your cheese over the porridge oats and flour before adding the applesauce and oil
3. Mix together all the ingredients adding cold water a tablespoon at a time until it combines, forms a ball and can be rolled out
4. Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the biscuit dough to around 1cm thick
5. Cut out your biscuits and bake for 15-25 minutes until they’re golden brown!
One satisfied customer!
I cut mine into different sizes and store them in an airtight container or cute Kilner Treat Jar like this one for up to 3 weeks…if they last that long! Wilson loves them as a little snack or a treat when he’s been extra good and because they’re all natural they’re perfect for his sensitive tummy. You can certainly add these to your list of puppy essentials!
I loved baking treats for Wilson even though it was quite strange not getting to try anything myself after all that work! I’ll certainly be experimenting with more flavour combos as these went down a storm with our VIP OAP!
Don’t forget to tweet me a picture @xameliax of your pooch enjoying their treats if you give my recipe a go! #DIYDoggy
